Assignment 4 - Jacquelyn

The Boston Marathon is an annual event that commenced in 1897. This race is about 26 miles long that takes the runners through the hilly terrain in Massachusetts. This event started small, but gradually became renowned and more than 30,000 people participate each year. Not only do people participate, but there are also many specators; about 500,000 attend each year just to watch the race. It's an event filled with determination, spirit, and overall just enjoyment. Unfortunately, this past year a horrific event occurred at this race that no one would have ever considered to happen before. Everything was normal before. There were crowds cheering and observing as the runners ran by. Stores and restaurants were open. It was an average day besides the fact that it was busy in Boston due to the race, but nothing else was expected. All of a sudden a loud noise exploded. Confusion spread over the faces of many for the first few seconds who were wondering what the heck just happened, and then realization struck. Adrenaline and panic prevailed everyone; their "flight" reaction was put into gear. After that, it was all chaos and terror. As you can see from the picture, the runners are continuing to run, and all the heads in the crowd are turned towards the explosion because they didn't know what occured; no one was aware that it was a bomb. Everyone, including security, is just looking at it in somewhat awe. The people in this picture seem as if they are trying to catch a glimpse of a street performer, but instead, this picture will be remembered as a time of terror.
