Assignment 3 -Katy Estes

I believe that evil and good exists in the world, but there are not clear definitions of them. Anyone can be good one day and evil the next, therefore are they really good or evil? I think that all of us at one time or another has done something evil (small or large) and has not tried to do good to make it right. Because if you think about it, will doing a good action really make it better?
Let's say you're like Leah Kleppinger and find a wallet with plenty of money and credit cards on the inside. Perhaps you do have a conscious and so you only take a little money. Just a hundred or so bucks. You claim that this is your "prize money" for finding the wallet. You then find the owner and tell him that you found the wallet as is. But the owner is devastated that the hundred bucks is gone. Maybe this extra hundred bucks was all he needed to put a down payment on a car or something. You then apologize and give the money back, but are things okay? Of course not. This owner of the wallet now has no faith in humanity and probably trusts strangers just a little less now. He will not tell the story of how a great teenager didn't take any money out of his wallet, he'll tell the story of how some punk teenager took his money then felt guilty enough to give it back.
Things like this happen all the time. People do "evil" things all the time (small or large) and they think it won't impact anyone. ("With $4,600 in a wallet, what would $100 less do?" you might've thought.) If humans find an opportunity to benefit themselves and possibly bring down others, they will jump on the occasion without remorse. Humans have thought like this since the beginning of time and will continue to think in this mind set for the rest of it. It's just a way of life.
So no, I do not think you can eliminate the good or evil side of everyone. I think everyone has both sides to them and they have to face their own struggles with dealing which side they lean towards most often. Good and Evil will continue to live in our society and all we can do about it is do a good deed every once and a while, just to restore someone's faith in humanity. Luckily for us, not everyone is evil all the time.
