Assignment 2-Brittany

If I had grown up 20 years earlier, then looking at history I know my life would have been extremely different. Technology allows us to share and access information in mere seconds. Until recently, this wasn't possible. Living in an era where technology was not so prevalent would probably include a lot more face to face communication. Since we live in a world where we can easily send a message to someone at the press of a button, then people don’t speak in person as often. I’m a firm believer that nothing can quite replace speaking to someone in person, so I’m sure that aspect of growing up 20 years earlier would have been better. However, I feel there would have been some disadvantages to growing up at that time. Right now, we have so much information available to us through technology. In general, that’s fantastic because we can learn more, more easily. Specifically for me though, that makes accessing and knowing about the things I love and geek out about much easier. For example, I can simply click a button and find out the release dates for upcoming books. Nowadays, many authors post that sort of thing on a webpage, so the process is quite simple.
Despite the fact that I feel there would be much more face to face communication, I do not think that growing up 20 years earlier would make any of my relationships much different. I know that the technological aspect would be missing, but I still feel that the relationships would be much the same. My friends and I would still freak out about books and such. I don’t feel that relationships are based in technology, technology is just an extra plus that we have at our disposal.

I would have to say that I prefer this time period. Yes, we have a lot of advantages with the internet, but also I have another reason. I think growing up now is a huge advantage because we are growing up as technology is developing more and more. We know and understand most of technology and how to use it because we have grown up with it. On more than one occasion I have had to help my mom with navigating some form of technology. She didn't grow up with it and isn't completely used to how a lot of it works. Schools and businesses are using technology more and more, so it is good that we have grown up knowing how to use it.
