16-Gibbs

I will be comparing/contrasting two films that are in the same genre, a specific one I like to call young-adult-books-turned-into-movies.

This genre of movies has failed so many times. It's really quite sad how many terrible movies are produced from books that i have really enjoyed. However, I will be comparing two that I enjoyed; "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" and "Perks of Being a Wallflower". While I enjoyed both of these movies, the way they were interpreted from the books is entirely different.
City of Bones is the first book in a six book series called "The Mortal Instruments" that is written by Cassandra Clare. This is one of the movies that gets bad reviews by critics, but is generally well liked by fans of the book. One major complaint that the critics had was that it was hard to connect prices and it seemed rushed. If you had read the book, you would have no problem connecting the scenes.

One of the problems that this movie has that Perks of Being a Wallflower does not is that it was necessary for the length of the movie that many parts of the book had to be left out. While I understand that the movie can't be 5 hours this is frustrating. Perks of Being a Wallflower is a significantly shorter book an it therefore does not have the same problem. All of the major scenes and most of the less important ones were able to make an appearance.
Because of the difference in length, I know this is a little unfair to say, but overall I believe that Perks was transferred from text to screen better mostly because of the fact that the book was kept, for the most pat, more whole that the story line from City of Bones was.
