Assignment 16- Isaac

The director I have chosen for this assignment is Edgar Wright, Who in the past has directed Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World,  and most recently The World's End; and currently is working on Marvel's Ant-Man.

Wright has an energetic style, but his shots remain controlled and rarely, if ever, become frantic. He favors smooth, quick transitions from scene to scene and allows the visuals in the film to tell the story as much as the dialogue. Rather than picking two movies to compare and contrast, I am going to pick three, because Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World's End are part of what is called the "Cornetto Trilogy." These three films aren't a trilogy in the sense that there is an ongoing story being told between the three of them, but in the sense that Wright, along with actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, wanted to make three movies together. Aside from the obvious similarities like recurring actors and running gags, the movies have more subtle parallels. For one thing, they're all faithful homages to their respective genres- horror/zombie movies, buddy cop movies, and sci-fi/alien invasion movies. Also, each film is satirizing some part of modern day culture: Shaun of the Dead slyly but firmly implies that humanity is partly zombified in its current state, while Hot Fuzz and The World's End mock the strange and alien atmosphere that cookie-cutter rural towns often possess.
