9- Hallie

I spend part of my summer this year on a mission trup with a group of Mennonites, when I first got to the Mennonite house that we were staying, I saw all of the anti-abortion Christian signs posted around the house and my ultra- liberal mind immediatily formed so misconceptions of the Mennonites. I talked to them a lot about politics during my visit and I talked to them about nonviolence, and I actually agreed with them. The Mennonites are so anti-war that they wont vote in the presidential election because when you vote for the president you are also voting for the commander-in-cheif. I thought about the millions upon millions of deaths that wouldn't have had to occur if there wasnt war and I understood their point of view. In an ideal world war woulsn't be necessary, but as a leading world power, it is not feasible for the United States to practice non violence in a world that is so violent. So, my views on war lie somethwere between the Mennonites and Richard Meyers.
