Assignment 7- Omer

On October 2, 1968, during a peaceful college students' protest, the Mexican government attacked and killed 44 people. I chose this event because not only was it a completely unnecessary act of violence, but it has been muffled by authorities for over 30 years.
The Mexican government initially accused the protesters of provoking the army, but it has now been revealed that the military silently surrounded the square and set up snipers in preparation for an unprovoked attack.
This brutal ending of the lives of 44 men and women is important to me because it highlights the wrongs of the world, and because it isn't well known. For all we Americans care, this is just another statistic. It's something for us to think about for possibly three minutes and then forget until it is brought up six years later. What isn't seen what it actually caused. 88 moms and dads had their children ripped from them. for each individual killed, a family lost a personality, and the family was torn. This massacre influences how i see many things, including government, and people themselves. After all, the snipers who killed unarmed civilians were people, and this event most likely has an interesting impact on their lives.
