You can call me Katy

I guess I should start with my name, which is Katy Estes. A lot of people have the misconception of thinking I'm Hispanic by my last name before seeing me, but after you get a glance of my blonde hair and blue eyes you'll understand that I am far from Hispanic. I also spell Katy uniquely, not by my own choice but by my parents. They told me that they honestly didn't think the name Katy would stick and I would go by Kate as I got older, but I don't think I could ever feel like a Kate nor could I ever be called Kate. Every time I think of the name Kate I think of "Jon and Kate Plus Eight" and we all know how miserably that ended. Some of my teachers also think that I am misspelling my name and have been for sixteen years and I am actually a Kathy. Let me reassure each and every one of you that I am not, nor will I ever be a Kathy. For some reason that name just irks me the wrong way.
I hate to think of myself as fitting into a stereotype very easily, but I do. To most people I am just your average teenage white girl. I have a white iPhone, drink Starbucks at any chance I get, love blowing my money on clothes that I will wear a few times and then get bored of, and probably eat more than I weigh. But I believe I am different from this stereotype in at least one aspect. If you were to ask me "Hey, would you rather go to this crazy party tonight or stay in and watch this new movie?" I would tell you to pop some popcorn and meet me at my house in thirty minutes. I love movies. And odds are that I would stay in and watch a movie with you than go to a party, like most other teenagers would choose. Netflix has become one of my best friends over the year and I have found that it really knows me. In seventh grade all that I would ever watch was horror movies. For some reason I was not interested in action or romance or comedy; I just wanted to see gore. Now I'm the opposite. If it's a good movie with decent acting and a well developed plot line, I'll watch it regardless the genre. I wouldn't say that I'm a movie expert or have even come close to watching every good movie out there, but I am slowly and surely making my way. The best movie that I've watched recently was "The Man in the Moon." If you have not seen this movie and have a Netflix account I highly suggest you do so.
A year ago I would've told you than my passion is cheerleading and I wouldn't give it up for the world. But after 3 serious concussions, two slight bumps to head, and nearly passing out at school, I realized that my health was more important. I had to quit Allstar Cheerleading this past spring because of my accumulated 3+ concussions due to the sport. I've had x-rays and MRI's and numerous doctor visits, and I now understand just how serious brain damage can be. I cheered for 5 years and devoted all of my time to it throughout those years. I was very proud of myself and my team for winning a National Championship (and yes there are more than one) in April. Unfortunately I had to say goodbye to all of my good friends and coaches and stay at home instead.
Since I've quit cheer I've had more free time than I know what to do with and I think that's why I watch so many movies now. One movie about the same length of a practice, so they fill the holes in my schedule pretty easily.

Here's a picture of my team winning National Champions and Grand Overall Champions at our last competition in April:
And here's a picture of my stunt team at the same competition (I'm the girl in the air):

I don't really know what my favorite website is, but I spend a lot of time on YouTube so I'll go with that. Here's my teams winning routine in April.  (In case that hyperlink doesn't work, here's the URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EF7xDC_BNV0)
